As part of the Over the Border Festival 2024, we present an extraordinary concert experience: “Timeless Melodies – A Touch of Nostalgia”.

Celebrated saxophonist Mulo Francel, renowned for his work with the band Quadro Nuevo, takes us on a journey back to the Roaring Twenties. With his C-Melody Saxophone, a rare gem, he transports us into the world of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” and “The Man I Love”, complemented by his own compositions, inspired by his adventurous touring life.

This concert is a tribute to the musical era of his great-grandparents, who emigrated from Upper Bavaria to New York in 1923. Francel revives the music of this era by placing it in a modern context, highlighting the lightness and frivolous sound of the C-Melody Saxophone.

After a long corona break, the popular series "Jazz im Köllenhof" starts with us!

Astatine & Uwe play popular songs from Jobim's Repertoire and not only. Bossa nova, sambas and carefully adapted ballads with a lively jazz accompaniment full of improvisations promise a program with an unusual and fresh note.

With Astatine's vibrant voice, the duo conveys a new expression of the Brazilian joie de vivre. The Romanian jazz singer is accompanied by guitarist Uwe Arenz. Skilfully balancing between rhythmically groovy Latin styles and colorful improvisations, he lays the rhythmic foundation.
The two Bonn musicians were able to win the exceptional flutist Michael Heupel, one of the most famous European jazz flutists, as a special guest.
Popular sambas and carefully adapted ballads with a lively jazz accompaniment full of improvisations on various flutes from piccolo to bass flute promise a program with an unusual and fresh note.

Led by Astatine’s hypnotizing vocals, LER.CHE shares a new expression of the Romanian soul with the world. The jazz quartet embodies the modern interpretation of Romanian folklore in a contemporary guise and is now releasing their debut album, followed by a tour in Romania and Germany.

About the name of this exciting project, Astatine says: “LER.CHE is essentially a proud Romanian bird, enjoying the exhilaration of new horizons while determined to preserve her roots in her song.” And indeed, original compositions and carefully curated folk melodies are set to avant-garde instrumental jazz, taking the listener on a mystic journey that defies boundaries of genre and geography.

Marcus Schinkel Trio & Joscho Stephan - Classic Meets Gypsy

Gypsy-Jazz is the first jazz style invented in Europe around 1930. 140 years earlier, the young Ludwig von Beethoven attracted attention at the Viennese court with unheard new fantasies on the piano, which were created at the moment - like the forerunners of jazz.

What better reason than to bring two virtuoso musicians together: Gypsy guitarist Joscho Stephan and jazz pianist Marcus Schinkel . The two musicians met in 2015 on the occasion of the Dresdner Jazztage and after a nightly meeting, the idea for a combination of gypsy jazz and classical models was born.

The two sound wizards draw from the most diverse melody templates of Mozart s Figaro, Schumann Childrens scenes, Debussy s Reverie, the famous love dream of Franz Liszt or Beethoven's "Wuth on the lost dime" to a brilliant rumba version of the patent topic of Nino Rota.

Wim de Vries, one of the best-known drummers in Europe (the Dutch newspaper Slagwerk awarded him the "Best Jazz Drummer of the Benelux" in 2016 and 2018) and Fritz Roppel, a well-known bassist in the Tango Fuego band, who masters both classical and jazz double-bass, completes the band's special sound.

A Polish evening with Kasia Bortnik Quintet

By the time China's spacecraft lands on the back of the moon, Kasia Bortnik - Folkwang College graduate for Jazz vocals - her second solo album "The moon is just a fake".
The content is poetic and playful. The songs, in Polish and English, vary between minimalist interpretations and compositions full of energy and joie de vivre.
Kasia's questions about life that reflect her music and lyrics remain open, as well as the question whether the moon landing really happened. The the only thing that counts is the driving force anyway.

Germany's Best Blues Duo comes to Bonn!

Of the meanwhile 21 national and international awards they received together, Georg Schroeter and Marc Breitfelder won the most important prize in 2011 in the USA.

In Memphis, Tennessee, they played the most important blues competition of the world, the "International Blues Challenge", and won the 1st place in the Category solo / duo.

This has not been succeeded by any other European Band ever since.

For this special occasion, Vlad Vashchenko brings you the best of his own compositions. Some are over 30 years old, some are quite fresh.
Astatine's lyrics and voice create new sound images. There is also a groovy bass pulse by Volker Heinze and the proverbial elegance of the drummer Claus Schulte, which rounds off the entire sound of the quartet.

We will be part of the street music festival in Unkel this year. Highly Recommended!

Ars Fontana is a festival of a special kind. For a whole summer's Saturday, music is played in the Unkeler Altstadt. On two stages bands, choirs and soloists perform for six hours. The program ranges from rock to jazz to folk music. All for free and outside. The musicians are happy for every donations. Of course food and drinks are also provided.

Afro-Cuban Impressions with Mirta and Norman

The songs of the duo combine soft melancholy with Cuban cheerfulness. American and Afro-Cuban music (Bolero, Son, Danzón, etc.) blends with jazz and chamber music, original compositions meet forgotten songs of Latin American music culture. Sung in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

With her warm and profound voice, the singer Mirta Junco gives her homeland Cuba a piece of soul at every concert. And Norman Peplow reveals his love and many years of experience in Afro-Cuban music and jazz at the piano. The Bonner duo MARION & SOBO takes you on a musical journey through space and time. The guitarist Alexander Sobocinski (Poland) and the singer Marion Lenfant-Preus (France / USA) inspire themselves from their international roots as well as the rich travel experience and show, both musically and linguistically, that they are citizens of Europe and the world.
Their newest album Migrateurs, combines Jazz & Worldmusic with French Lyrics. With swing, jazz, bossa nova, sounds from Africa and the Balkan as well as adaptations of traditional chansons, MARION & SOBO show just how international French music can be.

Let Astatine take you to the exuberant world of Bucharest in the 1930s. Vibrant gipsy melodies, charming tangos, ballads and Romanian folk are transformed into modern arrangements and Astatine's vocal style makes it unforgettable.

To the captivating voice join the frantic fiddling of Geiger Pal Szomora, the precise guitar harmonies of Benjamin Clement and the confident sound of the bass player Vilmos Csikòs. Together with these renowned musicians from the Manouche scene of Belgium Astatine awakens the mysterious and expressive music of the Balkans to life always paired with the heart need to bring them closer to a new audience.

Astatine's special guest is Aurel Budişteanu, one of the most famous accordionists of Romania.

A Tribute Concert

In April Ella Fitzgerald would have turned 100 years old. Since she is my all time favorite muse, I dedicate her the concert this Thursday. Accompanied by with Vlad Vashchenko (guitar) and Thomas Heck (saxophone), I will sing for you some of her favorite tunes from the Cole Porter and Gershwin songbooks. Timeless and refined.

Jazz for Ear and Palate @ Muffenale

On the first Sunday of September, Muffenale will lure you into the picturesque Muffendorf for the 29th time. True to the motto "Art & Culinary", Muffenale presents itself as a colorful market for handmade goods, creative toddlers and culinary specialties.

Astatine presents House Concert no. 10

Special Guest: Pangea Ultima

The band's name refers to the supercontinent, which will possibly arise in some million years: at that stage all of today's continents will melt into a single entity and all territorial borders will be overcome. If humanity should still exist in this distant future, this band's music would be its soundtrack.
The music of this project uses jazz as a language to make the overcoming of cultural borders audible. Through a blend of original African grooves, Western harmony, Indian sound aesthetics and Latin American temperament, the band's sound forms a universal world music.

An evening with friends - Astatine feat. Marion & Sobo

A very special concert, this one! For the first time together in such a formation, Astatine will play gypsy swing with the very talented Marion and Sobo. Well known musicians such as Gregor Salz (guitar), Thomas Heck (sax) and Stefan Rey (bass) will accompany them on this musical journey.

Astatine participates for the first time at jazzahead! fair in Bremen. This an exhibition and meeting point for the international jazz scene. Since its premiere in 2006, the event has enriched the regional and national cultural scene with its high quality and diverse jazz as well as with international flair.

Special Guest: NS3 - New Simplicity Trio

The ambitious Jazztrio project is the result of the close collaboration between the English jazz pianist and composer Bruno Heinen and Antonio Fusco, an Italian drummer and composer, as well as the Danish bassist Henrik Jensen. Contemporary representations of melody and groove are the central elements of their music.

Special Guest: meoneo

This time, "meoneo" voice & guitar will provide a swinging start into this years concert season. The musical globe trotters Claudia Huismann and Werner Krotz-Vogel present their own songs and groovy sounds from jazz to popular muscic.

The duo "meoneo" has formed with more than 10 years of international stage experience  their own style of music, which invites the audience to lay back and chill. Their current CD was released under the name "spring".
